Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica as a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 185 mph, making it one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic. Similar devastation is now being reported in eastern Cuba, Haiti, and the southeast Bahamas.
